Why 鳴っている and not 聞こえている?
聞こえている means "I can still hear it" — the person is the subject. 鳴っている means "it is still ringing" — the words are. Choosing the second lets the room do the remembering.
Explanations are AI-generated and vary by song and question. AI explanations and follow-ups are an optional subscription, $1 for your first month.

置いていった = past tense of 置いていく: to leave something behind and go. 言葉が鳴っている = the words are still "ringing" — treating what was said as a sound that keeps echoing in the room.
鳴る normally describes things that really make sound — bells, instruments. The lyric deliberately lets words ring: the person is gone, but the room remembers the sentence. Japanese lyrics often carry feeling through objects like this.
